Regarding whether or not you can declare Kane County as a sanctuary county, the issue in Illinois lies not in whether counties can inquire about migration status during crime investigations but rather in their willingness to endorse the settlement of millions of undocumented immigrants within their jurisdictions, shouldering the financial burden of providing for their necessities such as food, housing, healthcare, and education, while passing on these costs to an unwilling citizenry.

Chicago and Cook County are stark examples of the dire consequences of such policies. The reluctance of county boards like Kane County to formally oppose the influx of illegal immigrants reflects a troubling trend of elected officials disregarding the will of the people in favor of their personal beliefs and agendas, exemplified by using a bill signed by former Governor Rauner as a pretext for inaction. This disconnect between elected officials and the populace is deeply concerning and indicative of a systemic issue in governance.
