Kane County Board to Weigh New Tax Proposals Amid Public Backlash

Kane County, IL — October 20, 2025

Just months after voters overwhelmingly rejected a $50 million sales tax referendum, the Kane County Board is preparing to consider a fresh round of tax proposals that critics say defy the will of the electorate.

A Special Executive Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22 at 1:00 PM at the Kane County Government Center, where board members will deliberate on several controversial fiscal measures. Among the proposals are:

  • An increase in the motor fuel tax
  • A newly introduced grocery retailer’s occupation tax
  • Expanded budget allocations for the State’s Attorney and judiciary
  • Salary hikes for elected officials, including the County Auditor, Circuit Clerk, Coroner, Recorder, Board Chair, and Board Members

Notably absent from the agenda is any discussion of budget cuts, despite Kane County’s ranking as the second-highest taxed county in the nation, according to ATTOM Data Solutions.

The proposed salary increases, which would start at over $109,000 annually and rise each year, have sparked outrage among residents who argue that the county should be tightening its belt—not expanding it. Critics accuse Board Chair Corinne Pierog of prioritizing political allies and union donors over fiscal discipline.

“This is a moment of reckoning for Kane County taxpayers,” said one local advocate. “We’ve already said no to higher taxes. Now they’re coming back with more, and we need to show up and speak out."  "Why haven't they made any cuts?  This is their solution, more taxes?" says another resident.

Community members are being urged to attend Wednesday’s meeting to demand:

  • No new taxes
  • Meaningful budget cuts
  • Greater accountability from elected officials

The agenda for the meeting is listed under “the executive board agenda packet.”

As tensions rise over the county’s financial direction, residents are mobilizing to remind their leaders that taxpayers are not bottomless sources of revenue. Organizers are calling on citizens to bring their neighbors and make their voices heard.

“Kane County deserves leadership that respects the will of the people and practices fiscal responsibility,” one organizer said. “This meeting is our chance to make that clear.”

In a powerful interview titled “The Government Came After Me,” natural health advocate Sayer Ji—founder of GreenMedInfo—shares his personal account of being deplatformed, censored, and targeted for challenging mainstream public health narratives. His story is not just about one man’s struggle; it’s a cautionary tale for every community that values free speech, informed consent, and medical transparency—including right here in Kane County. The Heart of the Controversy Sayer Ji’s work focused on compiling peer-reviewed research on natural health alternatives and vaccine safety. But as he gained traction, he says he became a target: His platforms were demonetized and removed from social media. He was labeled part of the “Disinformation Dozen” by a UK-based group, which influenced U.S. congressional scrutiny. He faced personal and professional fallout, including the breakdown of his marriage and alienation from his community. Ji argues that this wasn’t just cancel culture—it was a coordinated effort to silence dissent and control the public health narrative. Why Kane County Should Pay Attention Kane County residents have already seen how public health policy can overstep—whether through school-based mental health screenings without consent, or the initial refusal to post the Illinois Certificate of Religious Exemption form. Ji’s experience underscores the broader risks: Suppression of alternative health information : Could local health departments be pressured to limit what information is shared with the public? Chilling effect on community dialogue : If national voices are silenced, will local advocates feel safe speaking at school board meetings or public forums? Parental rights at risk : When only one narrative is allowed, parents lose the ability to make fully informed decisions for their children. 📢 What Kane County Can Do Ji’s story is a rallying cry for local action. Here’s how we can respond: Defend the right to question public health policy without fear of censorship. Encourage local officials to support open dialogue and diverse perspectives. Share alternative health resources through community networks, libraries, and events. Demand transparency from school districts and health departments about what information is promoted—and what’s being left out. Free Speech Is a Public Health Issue As Ji puts it, “You can’t have informed consent without freedom of speech.” In Kane County, we must ensure that all voices—especially those advocating for natural health, medical choice, and parental rights—are not just tolerated, but protected.
