The Democrats created a bipartisan campaign slogan with their universally approved slogan, STOP THE CHAOS.
You've probably seen the campaign signs popping up around Kane County. A giant red stop sign with such a simple message:
"STOP THE CHAOS. VOTE FOR KANE COUNTY DEMOCRATS."
It's a memorable slogan. To be fair, both parties agree that the chaos needs to stop, but the slogan is one of deception. Their "implied slight of hand" fails to state who actually is responsible for the chaos they're talking about? And they don't want to talk about it.
Let's start with the facts.
Democrats currently control
17 of the 24 seats on the Kane County Board (and have for quite some time), along with the board chairmanship. In Springfield, Democrats hold
78 of 118 seats in the Illinois House and
40 of 59 seats in the Illinois Senate. Illinois also has a Democratic governor. In other words, Democrats possess substantial governing power at both the county and state levels.
Uh oh...maybe the democrats should have thought out their slogan before calling themselves out for the chaos that they created. They hold a supermajority and they're saying that they're the solution?
And there are specific decisions worth examining. Kane County's 2026 budget depended partly on financial reserves and included approximately $1.5 million more in anticipated property tax revenue than the preceding year's extension. The county subsequently adopted a 2027 budget designed to avoid additional reserve spending, but that financial plan also anticipates a 2.7% property tax levy increase that had not yet received final approval as of August. County leaders have also increased the county motor fuel tax and enacted a local grocery tax to replace the expiring state tax.
That is precisely why political slogans deserve scrutiny.
When a party controls the machinery of government, its record deserves at least as much attention as its campaign promises. What specific chaos is the sign referring to? Is it national politics, state policy, county finances, or something else? Which decisions created the problems? What has the governing majority done to address them? And what would change under the candidates asking for your support? While democrats fight socialists and communists, they have the gall to say that they're the solution when they caused every ill created in Kane County.
This isn't an endorsement of the republican party, but how can any taxpayer vote for the democrats when they're the ones who created the chaos.
The words "Stop the Chaos" may fit neatly on a yard sign. But to think that the democrat party actually paid for someone to come up with this slogan and then throw money behind the signs, it's obvious that they don't have the brains to serve Kane County.
