Protecting the family means voting against the D303 Tax Referendum
an editorial from a very concerned taxpayer

D303 CRUSHES Families WITH High Taxes
Strong schools matter. But so do strong families. And the financial stability of those families must be part of the conversation.
On November 3, voters in St. Charles School District 303 will decide whether to authorize another $282,500,000 in borrowing....placing those costs on the backs of the already overtaxed resident.
But there is a cost to every dollar of additional property taxes. And that cost goes well beyond money.
When families struggle to pay their bills, parents work longer hours. Some take second jobs. Time with spouses and children becomes more limited as those who can contribute financially are forced to.
When financial pressure increases, and marriages can suffer. Research has demonstrated that arguments over money are among the most persistent and difficult conflicts married couples face and is the number one factor contributing to divorce.
What good are repaired school buildings if the family structure suffers because of this added tax?
D303 has identified legitimate building maintenance, accessibility and educational needs. But by their own admission they were intentionally asleep at the wheel, spending money while ignoring maintenance needs.
But their new requests need to be weighed against the financial obligations the referendum would place on taxpayers.
Our community should be asking whether the proposed improvements justify the added costs, whether less expensive alternatives exist, and what the long-term impact will be on household budgets....and the families that will carry this debt for the next 25+ years.
We talk constantly about investing in our children. But investing in children starts with protecting the family, and their finances. Financially stable homes drive the community forward. Not repaired buildings and excessive taxes
VOTE NO
Signed...Family over Buildings
