The latest tax hike approved by the Kane County Board places yet another heavy burden on residents who are already stretched thin. Families across the county—especially seniors on fixed incomes—are watching their property tax bills rise year after year, with little relief in sight. For many elderly homeowners, these increases aren’t just numbers on a page; they threaten their ability to remain in the communities they’ve lived in for decades.
What makes this moment especially troubling is the board’s continued willingness to lean on taxpayers instead of pursuing deeper structural reforms. Even after voters overwhelmingly rejected a sales tax increase in 2025, the board has now approved a $2.3 million property tax levy hike to prop up its 2027 budget. Residents who are already dealing with high inflation, rising utility costs, and everyday financial pressures are being asked once again to shoulder the consequences of years of fiscal mismanagement.
