More Radical Teacher Training in Socialism

Teacher training programs in some school districts are increasingly introducing concepts that critics argue encourage children to question their parents' authority and influence. Central to these concerns is the growing use of the term "adultism," which some training materials describe as a system in which adults wield unfair power over children. Opponents argue that this framework teaches students to view ordinary parental guidance, boundaries, and decision-making as forms of oppression rather than as necessary responsibilities of parenthood. Critics warn that such messaging risks driving a wedge between children and the families responsible for their upbringing and well-being.

Education advocates raising alarms about these programs contend that the movement extends beyond classroom discussions about authority. They point to teacher training resources that promote anti-capitalist themes, challenge traditional institutions, and encourage educators to view society through the lens of power struggles and collective grievances. According to these critics, ideas once associated with Critical Race Theory, DEI initiatives, and activist movements are being repackaged under new labels and presented to teachers as part of broader "ethnic studies" and social justice training efforts.

Critics further argue that weakening the parent-child relationship serves a larger ideological objective: replacing the values taught by families with political doctrines rooted in socialist or Marxist thought. They contend that by encouraging distrust of parents, communities, and long-standing institutions, these educational approaches make students more receptive to collectivist political ideas. In this view, the classroom becomes not merely a place for academic instruction but a vehicle for ideological indoctrination, with teachers positioned to shape children's beliefs in ways that conflict with the values and authority of their parents.
