Illinois Has Become the Midwest’s Abortion Epicenter - Why now Matters More Than Ever

Illinois is experiencing a dramatic shift, and not for the better. A new study reveals that after the Dobbs decision, two major abortion providers in the state increased their yearly abortions from 24,000 to more than 32,500. This is not a small uptick. This represents an industry expanding at full force, fueled by policies that place profit and politics above compassion, science, and human dignity.

Women are crossing state lines not because Illinois offers better healthcare or more support, but because other states have chosen to protect unborn children. In response, Illinois leaders have aggressively positioned the state as the “destination clinic” of the Midwest, encouraging late-term and high-volume abortions while doing little to help women who actually want to choose life.

To meet this demand, clinics expanded later into pregnancy, opened mobile units, and increased the frequency of procedures at 12 weeks and beyond. The same study shows a 75% increase in abortions performed at 12 weeks or later. A stage where a baby has fingers, toes, facial features, and a heartbeat that has been beating for months.

This is the human cost of Illinois’ policies.

The Impact on Women and Families

While lawmakers celebrate these numbers as “access,” the reality is far more heartbreaking. Women facing unexpected pregnancies are often overwhelmed, scared, and isolated. They need support, information, encouragement, and real options. But Illinois directs nearly all its energy into expanding abortion availability, not supporting life-affirming alternatives.

Instead of investing in prenatal care, adoption pathways, parenting resources, or community support systems, state leadership continues to pour resources into the abortion industry. An industry that profits when women believe they have no choice.

Now more than ever:
