Debate on Illegal Immigrant Voting Blocked by Chair Corrine Pierog

Non-citizens are not allowed to vote in Federal elections. Still, there are numerous municipalities in the United States where non-citizens are allowed to vote in local elections.

If Madam Chair Corrine Pierog has her way, Kane County will be one of these municipalities. On March 21, 2024, during the Public Service Committee meeting, David Young, District 15, proposed a Proclamation to oppose non-citizen voting in Kane County. The Public Service Committee voted to add the Proclamation to the “full” County Board agenda. Following is the meeting recording, with the Proclamation discussion starting at 1:13:00.

Since then, Corrine Pierog has not brought the Proclamation up in any of the three Board meetings. Instead, she had The League of Women Voters present during the May 14 County Board Meeting, explaining that numerous municipalities allow non-citizen voting. The presentation starts at 00:48:00  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neUlDExvXL4&t=12684s

Mark my words: if Corrine Pierog is reelected in November, it will be legal for non-citizens to vote in Kane County.
