Not Imprison Gang Rapists?

Ph.D cANDIDATE AND vICTIM DOES NOT BELIEVE IN PRISONS

It’s almost unbelievable to read this and realize that a PhD candidate—whose academic focus is literally “sexual violence and contemporary fiction”—has convinced herself that prisons are the real problem, not the men who violently attacked her. The cognitive dissonance is jaw‑dropping. Someone who studies sexual violence at an advanced level should have a heightened understanding of harm, trauma, and accountability. Instead, she’s so ideologically committed to the belief that prisons are inherently bad that she decided reporting a gang rape would be “silly.” It’s hard to fathom how someone can be this detached from basic reality.

What makes it even more astonishing is the moral inversion. Rather than directing outrage toward the perpetrators, she directs it toward the criminal justice system—treating the rapists as potential victims of “carceral harm” while she absorbs the actual violence. The ideology seems to have overridden not just common sense but even the most fundamental instinct for self‑protection. When someone who studies sexual violence professionally still concludes that the real injustice would be holding violent offenders accountable, it raises serious questions about how deeply this worldview has warped her judgment.

And the broader implications are chilling. If this is where anti‑prison ideology leads—minimizing or excusing the most brutal crimes—then it’s not just misguided, it’s dangerous. A society that refuses to hold violent predators accountable isn’t compassionate; it’s abandoning its most vulnerable. The fact that a scholar specializing in sexual violence can witness a gang rape and still decide the real problem is prisons is beyond incredulous. It’s a stark warning about how far certain academic circles have drifted from reality.
