According to a new SmartAsset article, their analysis lists Aurora and Elgin among the highest property‑tax‑burdened communities in the nation. Aurora ranks seventh and Elgin 12th, reflecting how much of a typical household’s income is now consumed by property taxes. In Aurora, homeowners spend 5.83% of their income on property taxes; in Elgin, the figure is 5.46%. These burdens persist even though both cities have median household incomes well above the statewide median.

The numbers illustrate how quickly costs add up for local families. Aurora homeowners with mortgages earn a median of $109,738 but face annual property tax bills averaging $6,399. In Elgin, the median income for mortgage holders is $120,773, yet annual taxes climb to $6,595. When paired with monthly housing costs approaching or exceeding $2,000, these tax bills place substantial pressure on working households—especially those already stretched by rising prices in other areas of life.

Illinois’ broader tax landscape compounds the strain.  Illinois, under JB Pritzker, carries the second‑highest effective property tax rate in the country at 2.07%, according to the article's referencing of Rocket Mortgage.  Many area residents are expected to see further increases this year due to rising property values, reassessments, and changes to exemptions. Even with available relief programs, the overall trend continues upward, leaving many homeowners feeling squeezed as their tax obligations grow faster than their wages.

The Democratic Candidates for Kane County Board are committed to more taxes.  It's a full commitment.  They have expressed their need for more money for more services, all while residents are fleeing Kane County and Illinois, thus creating a untenable burden for those who choose to or are forced to remain in Kane County.  Connie Pierog's commitment to JB Pritzker is clear evidence that her relationship with JB is more important than serving the families who struggle with her in power.  Every open board seat should be filled, not by a democrat, but by anyone who wants fiscal responsibility.  Fiscal responsibility in Kane County mean finding a leader who seeks responsiblity without increasing taxes....not even by a penny.
