Proposed D303 cAPITAL pROJECT rEFERENDUM

 1) St. Charles School District (D303) held a series of meetings, twice monthly, with parents, staff, students, and community members over the last six months. The meetings were intended to review the facilities deficiencies and capital projects "needs." The Facilities Committee made a recommendation to the School Board at the 4/13/26 Regular School Board Meeting for a proposed $295.6M referendum in November 2026. The Board is to review the information and must decide what it will do by the August 2026 Board Meeting. If the School Board votes to move forward with the proposed referendum, it would mean another $777 annually on your tax bill for the next 30 years for a house valued at $500K.

D303 has asked for two referendums in the last 24 years, both of which have failed. D303 has not increased its budgeted amount of $2-3 M for capital projects until the last budget cycle. Then, at that point, the amount was increased to $4-5 M, despite aging infrastructure. The committee and various Board Members insist that the proposed referendum is the bare bones needed to keep infrastructure intact and keep pace with its aspirational districts.

Let the Board know that additional taxes are not acceptable, to be good fiduciaries of our money (70% of our property tax bills), to budget more accordingly, and that St. Charles North Highschool does not need a $52M fieldhouse.

Whether or not you live in D303 boundaries, please email the Board to express your opinion of the proposed referendum at - boardofeducation@d303.org, (which goes to all board members); please copy the Superintendent, Paul Gordon at Paul.Gordon@D303.org.

Also, please show up in force to all D303 subsequent school board meetings (listed below) and voice your opinion. Thank you!
