Schools Promoting April 10 "Day of Silence" for LGBT+; Parents Can Opt Out
Were parents Given notice for this event as well as the option to "Opt Out" with form required by Law?

Many Kane County parents are raising serious concerns after schools promoted the “Day of Silence” in support of the LGBT+ community without allegedly notifying families beforehand. This event is scheduled for tomorrow and many parents state they found out today. Because this event encouraged student participation during instructional time, parents expected advance communication and the chance to decide whether their children would take part.
Under federal law—specifically the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA)—parents must be informed and given the opportunity to opt their children out of activities that involve sensitive topics, including those touching on sexuality or ideological viewpoints. By allegedly moving forward without notice or an opt‑out option, schools failed to meet this legal obligation and left families without the transparency for which they are entitled.
As a result, many parents across Kane County feel blindsided and excluded from decisions that directly affect their children’s school day. The lack of communication has intensified concerns about schools bypassing parental rights, reinforcing the growing demand for accountability, lawful compliance, and respect for families’ role in guiding their children’s values and education.
